RICHMOND, Ky.– The Eastern Kentucky University men’s basketball team has added 6’9″ Marshall transfer Iran Bennett to the roster for the 2021-22 season, head coachA.W. Hamiltonannounced on Monday.

Bennett missed this past season with an injury; however, as a redshirt sophomore in 2019-20, he started 30 of 32 games for the Thundering Herd, averaging 9.1 points and 5.3 rebounds-per-game.

The forward from Durham, North Carolina recorded his first career double-double against the Colonels on December 19, 2019, scoring 21 points and pulling down 16 boards. He went for 17 points and 11 rebounds in a win at Middle Tennessee on January 9, 2020. Bennett followed that up with 18 points and 12 rebounds against Southern Miss on February 6, 2020.

Bennett played under Hamilton at Hargrave Military Academy. He averaged 11 points and eight rebounds-per-game on the 2015-16 Hargrave squad that went 47-1 and won the 2016 Prep National Championship. He posted 17 points and 11 rebounds-per-game in 2016-17, helping Hargrave to a 43-2 record and the 2017 Prep Final Four.

“Iran is a supremely skilled big who has a natural feel for the game,” Hamilton said. “He has great hands and feet and is going to be a force in the paint for us because of his size and skill. He had 21 points and 16 rebounds against us the last time we played him, so I’m beyond happy he’s a Colonel. Character wise, I’m not sure if you’re going to find a better person than Iran. He has an infectious smile and warm heart, and he will be a community and fan favorite while he is here.”
