After much speculation, it was confirmed on Friday that Kim, 40, had filed for divorce from Kanye, 43, after nearly seven years of marriage.
Divorce proceedings are reportedly amicable after both signed a pre-nuptial agreement. The couple once known as “Kimye” will have joint legal and physical custody of their four children.
The Chicago decided he would run as an independent candidate in the 2020 US presidential election against Donald Trump and Joe Biden.
The star caused concern for fans due to an erratic speech at his campaign launch. Kanye also moved to Wyoming to focus on his campaign, and he allegedly believes that his decisions damaged his marriage.
A source told People: “He’s in that place of ‘if only.’ ‘If only I had done this, if only I hadn’t done that.” He’s processing things. He thinks that the Presidential run was the ‘straw that broke the camel’s back. ‘ Before that, there was hope. After that, none. It cost him his marriage.”
Sources say Kim’s breaking point with husband Kanye came on July 19, 2020. During his first presidential campaign rally, the “Stronger” artist told attendees that Kim had once considered aborting their first daughter, North.
The dad-of-four told the crowd that Kim “had pills in her hand.”
He shared, “You know, these pills you take it and it’s a wrap—the baby is gone.”
“Even if my wife wants to divorce me after this speech, she brought North into the world even when I didn’t want to,” he said. “She stood up and she protected that child.”
According to UsWeekly, Kim started planning her “exit” after he “crossed the line.”
