BAGHDAD, Sept. 27 (Xinhua)– The U.S. embassy in Iraq announced on Sunday that it will conduct a series of emergency tests and drills after a recent series of attacks.

“Over the course of the next two days, the U.S. embassy will be performing a series of tests and drills of our emergency situation procedures and equipment,” the embassy stated in a statement. The declaration did not offer further information about the drills, but observers believe such drills are indicated to boost the defense of the embassy to prevent the landing of mortar rounds and rockets. In the past months, unknown militant groups have often fired mortar rounds and Katyusha rockets on the U.S. embassy situated in Baghdad’s heavily fortified Green Zone, where the primary Iraqi federal government workplaces and some foreign embassies lie.
